Independent Artist Bryce Watanasoponwong Sets up an Exhibition on Abstract Art in Bangkok on 3-6 April 2021

Bangkok, Thailand – Thai-Australian photographer Bryce Watanasoponwong plans drives home his message on crossing the static boundaries existing between two cultures through an abstract art-based exhibition in Bangkok. The 4-day long exhibition captioned Crossing Boundaries at Lhong 1919, 248 Chiang Mai Rd, Khlong San, and Bangkok 10600, Thailand.

Bryce Watanasoponwong makes it a part of the popular 1st International Mango Art Festival. Bryce Watanasoponwong will disseminate the feelings generated largely by his own experiences of being groomed under two different cultures and is well conversant with the impacts such fusion registers not only on an individual but on the society as a whole.

The artist has experimented with various consequences of crossing the boundaries existing between two different cultures. Instead of sitting back on such experiences, he decided to bring to public view those facts using abstract art as the medium. The exhibition captioned Crossing Boundaries is the result of long experimentations and resultant personal experiences and can be said to be a consolidated sum up of his researches on the issue.

“It takes inspiration from the societal engagement and visual illusion found within our shared public spaces and reinforces a positive message about breaking through unnecessarily restrictive boundaries in life”, explains Bryce on his inspiration in organising the exhibition depicting messages of crossing over unnecessarily restrictive boundaries separating two cultures from each other.

His abstract art-based images displayed in the exhibition will reflect his ideas on transgressing unwarranted obstacles in form of various restrictive boundaries. The artist also clarified that to drive home the messages he had to violate various disciplines about creating an image-based representation of the subject. Accordingly, he seems to have depended on layering images as well as creating a matrix of narrative meanings through various semi-abstract compositions. The works combine classic with contemporary imaging making the end products speak for themselves.

On choosing the 1st International Mango Art Festival and making the exhibition a part of it Bryce explained that he wanted to transmit the messages to people coming from different cultural backgrounds. He also stated that he will be staging a virtual exhibition parallel to its physical counterpart so that people unable to attend physically the Crossing Boundaries exhibition and the Mango Art Festival due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This will be the way to reach out to the global target audience and making the message pass on to them.
